The Miracle of Generations 10/20/14
Last Saturday the Paignton ward decided to host a genealogy event at the chapel. They put a lot of work into making nice displays and committing local experts to help. They advertised with posters in
libraries and even on the radio. They gave us pamphlets to hand out so we
headed up to the high street and got to work. We took a white board and wrote,
"Stuck on family history?" which helped catch plenty of people's
attention. This event gave people the opportunity to come to our church
casually because there wasn't supposed to be any preaching. Hopefully I won't
get struck by lightning for saying this but it was nice to approach people about
something other than God. He's not as popular as history around here. Then
after we built a little bit of a relationship with them they would sometimes
ask questions. Tor Bay
Loads of nonmembers and less actives came up to the church for help getting started or help with a problem. It gave us the opportunity to meet people and talk to them about the importance of family history work and families for that matter. My absolutely favourite Singaporean (the only one I know), Cathy, came up to the event as well. She commented how she found the people to be so friendly and she really enjoyed talking to them.
The next day she came up to the church. This is where I picture Brother Hedlund from mission prep getting a cheeky grin on his face and saying "Gotcha!" The spirit is always so strong in sacrament meeting if you try and have the right attitude. We had a nice chat with her after and she wants to take the lessons from us. Hopefully we can help her understand why the Gospel of Jesus Christ is so important in our lives. I know it's blessed mine and I can't wait to share it with more people!
Once again time is limited so I'll have to leave it at that.
