Time is money 6/14/16
Moves news, report from the
conference with Elder Oaks, and a testimony. :)
I don't have a lot of time and I have loads to tell you... but first off I want to give a big shout out to Jason for making it home safe! I have been praying for you. It has been great to have the assurance of a temple sealing to last into the eternities if anything happened. I have been so blessed to have a family that loves the gospel!
The BIG NEWS: Elder Vieira is moving to
and I am staying in Guildford. Today I go to
the temple and tomorrow I get a new companion fresh out of the MTC. I am so
excited to spend my last two transfers training! The extension is officially
happening now. On the 7th of September I'll become companions with my friend
Elder Redd for the last two and a half weeks on our visas. It will be awesome!
Some HIGHLIGHTS this week:
Monday while we were contacting between activities we found a former investigator who had a bad experience at church in the past. He is willing to give it another chance though so hopefully that goes well. We have met with him twice since then.
Tuesday we had a mission conference combined with the
mission at Hyde
Park Chapel. I got to meet Elder Oaks and hear some incredible talks! I also
meet Elder Keiron, Elder Herbertson, President Stevens of the London mission, and all of their wives.
Sister Stevens is the former Primary General President or something like that.
You don't care about any of that though; you want to hear about Elder Oaks. It
is confirmed, he is a true Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ. And he is a lot
more charismatic than I expected because he hardly smiles in General
Conference. He is really funny too. He was making loads of jokes. He gave us
some great teachings about opposition, success, and teaching repentance. London
Tuesday evening Elder Oaks came to
for a special stake conference/devotional/fireside. I was running high energy
from the events of the day and having all of these important people in our
area. We got to usher and welcome a few people to the G-Live Centre we rented.
A few notable ones are the Worshipful Lord Mayor of Guildford, an MP, the
Mayoress, and a reporter for a Surrey paper.
Elder Oaks taught us about the clusters of doctrine that distinguish us from
other churches. I felt the Spirit.
Wednesday was a meeting called Mission Leadership Council and they invited the district leaders this time. It was a long but revelatory experience. I felt the confirmation of the Spirit telling me that the decisions made are the direction that we should take in the ELSM. (I am being somewhat vague because the clock is ticking and you get tired of reading my novels anyway.)
Thursday I was back in my area with my companion. We had a "Specialised District Meeting" so I could share the results from MLC and I also conducted District Leader interviews. I really enjoyed the things I learned from that.
Friday was actually a really rough day. Getting a phone call from President Gubler was nice but apart from that it was full of rejection and mean-spirited criticism from people who don't even know my life (get a real job). But we rejoice in the opportunity to grow in opposition and to come closer to the Saviour in tribulation.
Saturday felt like one of the best days of my life with the dark backdrop of Friday. We went to visit a Brasilian potential and the timing was perfect. The wife was really interested but we gained the husbands trust by helping them find their lost pet turtle in the neighbours' garden. Cheers to Elder Vieira's treasure hunting skills. After we got to teach them a simple but powerful lesson about the restoration halfway in Portuguese, halfway in English. I am sad to lose Elder Vieira's Portuguese for that reason especially but we will figure it out.
I wasn't sure how the family enjoyed the visit but while we were walking I asked Elder Vieira. Essential he said, "Wow, powerful experience. I asked M (the husband) how he felt about the message. He said a few words. 'I feel the Spirit'."
We had other good visits Saturday, a good day Sunday, I had a good experience taking the sacrament, and Monday was another great day. Two of our favourite families hosted a farewell FHE for Elder Vieira complete with pizza, football, ice cream, and powerful testimonies.
I am so grateful to have had Elder Vieira as a companion. I have learned so much from him! I will be affected by his righteous example forever. He is experiencing many emotions that most missionaries feel at their first move. He is nervous and excited. "Be of good cheer and do not fear my friend," I admonished him (see D&C 68:6).
So much has happened this week I don't even know where to begin with my testimony. We were so blessed to be able to meet an Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ. All of these experiences this week have been revelatory. And we definitely saw the hand of the Lord guiding the work! And tonight I get to go through the temple.
